Description
The Palace of Knossos, the most famous Minoan palace of Crete was probably inhabited until the Byzantine period.
Not far away we have a look at the small village “Spilia”. With his small ravine and the trees it is something unique. We continue to the center of “Heraklion”.
The two churches are located inside the city center and are the largest in the city. The port of Heraklion was one of the most important in the Venetian period. The great monument of Koules dominates the whole port. The Archaeological Museum is probably the most important in Crete. It houses many finds from the Minoan palaces of Knossos, Festos, Malia and Zakros.
At the southernmost point of the city walls, is the Nikos Kazantzakis’ grave. His most famous work is “Zorba the Greek”. The tomb is simple but worth seeing. From up there you have a beautiful view of the city.
